| Donald Bortz has lived in Oakland County for most of his life. He started getting involved in politics shortly after joining the military. He jokingly tells people "It wasn't until I joined the military that I found all the ways the government is hurting us." Donald Bortz is a veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom, and is a strong advocate for supporting American servicemembers. In 2007, he helped the blog Blogging For Michigan raise over $5,000 for care packages for Michigan Soldiers serving in Iraq as part of the Army Reserves and Michigan National Guard.
Donald Bortz has also volunteered for several campaigns, including Tony Trupiano's congressional campaign and Kellie Riddell's run for the State Legislature. He serves on the Executive Committee for the Oakland County Democratic Party and the Waterford Democratic Club. He's also a Chief Steward for the Security Police and Fire Professionals of America, a union for security workers. He also writes for the political blog Blogging For Michigan.
